| Frequently Asked Questions
Am I required by law to keep an emergency drug kit in my office?
Currently, laws requiring emergency drug kits vary from state to state. However, most states require dental practices that are licensed in anesthesia to keep and maintain emergency drug kits. In any medical facility, emergencies can and do happen. It is best to always be prepared.
What are some of the most common types of emergencies encountered in dental offices?
Over 30,000 medical emergencies occur in dental offices each year. The most common emergencies that occur in dental offices are airway obstruction, hyperventilation, allergic reaction, asthma attacks, angina, adverse drug reactions, and unconsciousness.
How can I best prepare for patient emergencies?
There is a four-step process to preparing for medical emergencies in the dental office:
- Ensure the office has the ability to provide basic life support.
- Establish a dedicated emergency team.
- Establish protocol for quickly calling for emergency assistance.
- Have emergency drugs and equipment at the ready for properly trained staff to administer.

Sav-A-Life constantly monitors the expiration dates of emergency drugs in your kit and sends new ones just before the old ones expire. This ensures that your kit is always up-to-date. In the event that a drug is used, simply notify us and we will immediately ship your replacement drugs.

What is the difference between the M100 and the M1000 kit?
The M1000 is our original kit and still our best selling one. In recent years, however, experts in the emergency and dental fields have pushed for simpler, easier-to-use kits. As a result, the M100, which contains fewer but more effective drugs, was introduced. An emergency that could require the use of several drugs from the M1000 may only need one drug from the M100 for treatment. Either way, both kits have what it takes to handle office emergencies. Compare the M100 & M1000 side-by-side.
Why does the M1000 kit cost less than the M100 but come with more supplies?
The simple difference between the kits are the pre-filled syringes. The M100’s pre-filled syringes provide your practice with the highest quality product; because they're shipped to you filled. There is little chance of human error.
I already have a first aid kit in the office, why do I need an emergency drug kit?
First aid kits contain only things to treat wound or other surface level problems. However, because of the complexity of dental operations and the drugs and chemicals used, internal complications can result from dental procedures. In that case, only a kit designed specifically to treat emergencies is sufficient. |
